Visitor Facilities, Inveruglas, Tarbet
The car park at Inveruglas is a favourite stopping off place for visitors travelling up and down Loch Lomond. It is also an important access point for climbers going onto the hills. Previously however, visitor provision was limited to temporary toilets and a caravan serving refreshments in the summer months.
The site was the subject of an earlier study of visitor facilities on west Loch Lomondside undertaken, by Bell Ingram Rural and MAST, on behalf of the Loch Lomond Park Authority. The study proposed much improved visitor toilets at Inveruglas, linked to a cafe unit, all in one building.
The new visitor building is designed to fit into its beautiful surroundings while, at the same time, making reference to farm buildings nearby. The curved end overlooks the loch and provides a sheltered external space. Building materials are natural slate, lead, render and timber.
