Master Planning Study, Anderston, Glasgow

In 2002, MAST, working with DTZ Pieda, undertook an options appraisal study of 495 Scottish Homes houses in multi storey concrete buildings in Anderston, Glasgow.

Working closely with the steering group, MAST prepared a number of options, including:

  • Full rehabilitation
  • Full renewal
  • Mix of new build and rehabilitation

Subsequently, Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association were appointed as the preferred alternative landlord. MAST were asked to develop the earlier study into a Master Plan for the area, to inform the tenants ballot and, if successful, to provide a framework for approximately £50M of housing investment over a 7-10 year period.

In June 2005, following the successful tenants ballot, the transfer of 402 houses from Scottish Homes to Sanctuary Scotland took place. Subsequently, MAST have been appointed to develop the detailed design of Phase 1 comprising c 104 flats over 5 & 6 storeys.

Key design features include the reinstatement of the historic street pattern, lifts in all blocks, south facing sunspaces, integrated public art & feature lighting with high quality streetscaping and public spaces, including home zoned streets.
